Meet Lorraine1

Lorraine is a 32-year old woman working as an application engineer at a high growth company. She’s career-driven and has a track record of success at her employer. She has been promoted twice during her five years at the organization and is hoping to move into a management role within the next year.

Despite exercising regularly and maintaining a balanced diet, she has steadily gained weight over the past six months. And even though she makes a point to get a full night’s rest, she finds herself feeling lethargic at work and struggling to stay focused. A little over a year ago, Lorraine and her partner decided to start trying to have a child. They have not had success yet. The couple is scheduled to meet with a reproductive specialist next month, but Lorraine can’t help but worry about what might be leading to their inability to conceive. Lorraine’s worries have become a distraction at work, causing her to have increased anxiety levels. She’s considering seeing a therapist for guidance and mindfulness. She’s struggling.

Putting Data to Work

Lorraine’s path might have taken a different turn if her employer had access to actionable data and Health Intelligence. The cause of Lorraine’s weight gain, lethargy, and infertility is a treatable condition that most often requires a $10 medication. According to the American Thyroid Association, “An estimated 20 million Americans have some form of thyroid disease...up to 60 percent of those with thyroid disease are unaware of their condition."

Lorraine is not alone

The Springbuk Event Detection Algorithm™ would have enabled employers and providers to perform a simple blood test for Lorraine to identify her condition. With proper identification and treatment, Lorraine’s life, happiness, health, and performance at work all have the potential to improve. Lorraine can be empowered to live her best life possible.

Employers are uniquely situated to make an impact. Their employees can benefit from data-driven programs, outreach, and education at the workplace. Measure and Manage

According to the American Thyroid Foundation, one in eight women will develop a thyroid disorder during the course of their lives. This research indicates an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, and infertility for individuals with undiagnosed thyroid disease. For women that are able to become pregnant and are undiagnosed with thyroid disease, there is an increased risk of miscarriage, preterm delivery, and severe developmental problems in their children.

The impact of undiagnosed thyroid disease can change the path of someone’s life in significant ways. In its initial release, the Springbuk platform identified approximately 112,000 individuals like Lorraine.
