A Deeper Look At Your Population’s Neurological Profile

Over the last two years, migraine headaches have been a major driver behind increases in Rx PMPM. In Springbuk’s 2025 EHT Report, our team found that members diagnosed with migraine headaches experienced a 15.4% increase in Rx PMPM, driven by specialty drugs such as Nurtec ODT, Ubrelvy, and Qulipta.

Access your population’s ready-made Neurologic Conditions Report in your Report Library. Use this report to understand your population’s top spend by nervous system diseases, including inpatient admissions, emergency room, and advanced imaging use for headaches.

Understanding your population’s Neurological Profile enables you to identify savings opportunities such as lower-cost drug alternatives.

Reduce Unnecessary CT and MRI Scans for Migraines and Tension Headaches

Neuroimaging studies, including head CT scans and MRIs, are unnecessary for evaluation or treatment planning for most individuals with migraine or tension headaches. Individuals who have additional conditions that might require neuroimaging are excluded from this measure, including those with symptoms of stroke, seizures, paralysis, malignancy, head trauma, and central nervous symptoms.

The American Headache Society found that neuroimaging is unnecessary in patients with headaches consistent with migraine who have a normal neurologic examination.

See whether your population has had unnecessary imaging related to headaches by visiting the Insights tab in the Springbuk platform.

Compliance with Recommended Guidelines Improves Member Health Outcomes

Gaps in care arise when patients don't receive the recommended care for particular chronic conditions. Migraines have recommended care guidelines, and monitoring compliance over time can help you identify needed plan design changes, wellness events, or partnerships with targeted point solutions.

Care guidelines for migraine management focus on compliance with prophylactic treatment, minimizing the use of acute medications, and avoidance of ER visits.
