Wellness Program Highlights

The most recent Chevron employee survey found the statement “Chevron is a company that cares about the health and well-being of its employees” as one of the highest scoring responses (81/100). However, the statistic that best demonstrates the wellness program’s success based on program effectiveness would be the change in the Framingham 10-year coronary heart disease scores. Within the cohort of 3-year participants, those who completed the health questionnaire reduced their risk for coronary heart disease in the next 10 years by 15.7%, and those who participated in health coaching reduced their risk by 12.3%. The coaching-engaged cohort had a large decrease in risk prevalence for 8 of 9 lifestyle risks. In the overall cohort, 64.5% of users eliminated at least one health risk, with 71.5% in the coaching-engaged cohort doing the same. Compared to 2015, 7.8% fewer users were classified as high risk and 14.4% more were classified as low risk.

On October 3, 2018, Chevron partnered with the American Heart Association™ to launch the inaugural Heart Walk Fall Festival at Chevron Park in San Ramon, California. The purpose of the heart walk was to raise awareness surrounding cardiovascular diseases, promote and encourage employee engagement, and demonstrate our community support and social investment for the American Heart Association. There were 1,104 registered participants. Over $61,000 was raised by Chevron employees (not including the employee match and corporate donations). The event included a mile walk around Chevron Park, catered lunch with heart healthy options, farmer’s market, fitness center representatives, and Chevron executive leadership presence. Due to the success experienced last fall, the wellness team will partner with our corporate affairs and facility teams to make this an annual event.

“I’m very thankful for our program because I have been in discomfort and have been a beneficiary. Being able to call, have someone show up, help me figure out what’s going on that’s causing the discomfort, and then developing the habits that help prevent that. Thank you!”
